A pushchair is usually the single biggest baby purchase, so it helps to narrow the choice by how you will actually use it. City parents often prioritise a compact fold, light chassis and one-handed steering, while anyone walking on rough paths or grass will feel the benefit of larger wheels and better suspension. If your baby is newborn, check that the model either lies fully flat or takes a carrycot.

Beyond the chassis, think about what comes in the box. Some pushchairs are sold as a bare seat unit, others as a bundle with a carrycot, raincover and footmuff, and travel systems add a compatible infant car seat.
